National Collector Car Appreciation Day
JULY 9th
Washington, D.C. -- The United States Senate passed Senate Resolution 513 (S. Res. 513) at the request of the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) and the Automotive Restoration Market Organization (ARMO) Council designating July 9, 2010 as “Collector Car Appreciation Day.” The resolution was the result of an effort undertaken by ARMO as a means to raise awareness of the vital role automotive restoration and collection plays in American society.
S. Res. 513 was sponsored by Congressional Automotive Performance and Motorsports Caucus members Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) and Senator Richard Burr (R-NC). Senators Tester and Burr have been strong advocates for the automotive hobby in Washington, and S. Res. 513 reaffirms their understanding of the cultural importance of collector cars. The Caucus is an informal, non-partisan group that pays tribute to America’s ever growing love affair with the car and motorsports. The Caucus recognizes the integral role collector cars have played in fostering our nation’s appreciation for motorsports.
The resolution was the result of an effort undertaken by SEMA and its councils as a means to raise awareness of the vital role automotive restoration and collection plays in American society. Restoration businesses help save our nation’s heritage while providing well-paying, high-skilled jobs nationwide.
SEMA Vice President of Government Affairs Steve McDonald said, “We greatly appreciate the United States Senate’s recognition of the important role classic car restoration serves in our country. As Americans gather at car cruises and other events in conjunction with ‘Collector Car Appreciation Day’ on July 9, these vital contributions will be honored and preserved.”
President’s Message
Our Final AAHC meeting of the year was on Monday May 3rd with a great turnout at Mel Martin’s museum. I would like to thank Mel and Sally for inviting us and especially for the great food, drinks, and dessert. It was a great gathering of new and old friends that have contributed to our great hobby over the years and I appreciate everyone’s continuing support of our Club.
As we close our season, we can look back on some of our accomplishments. We rolled out our new AAHC Newsletter, we purchased our AAHC Tent that has traveled throughout our State, and we have increased attendance at our monthly Meetings. We formed a partnership with GoodGuys to have our AAHC tent present at both the shows each year, which give the members a great opportunity to volunteer at the tent and see the show for free. We also raised over $4oo at our January meeting with a raffle of donated Auction tickets. Last but not least, our AAHC car Show was a huge success and big thanks goes out to Paul Miller, Bob Kleiner and all the volunteers that help with the show.
These goals were accomplished by a dedicated Board of Directors and all the AAHC members that help support them. I personally want to thank the Board Members for their hard work and the hours the put in to strengthen our hobby. Three members of our Board, Mark Steele, Victor Diaz, and Paul Howe will be leaving us this year and I want to thank them publicly for the great job they did. Although each one of them had separate responsibilities, they pitched in on all activities and were a big key to our successful year.
Our next Meeting will be held at Sanderson Ford on TUESDAY September 7, 2010. The move to Tuesday was approved at May meeting and we believe this switch will increase attendance at our meetings by not having to compete against 5 Monday night football games, the Fiesta Bowl, and the NCAA Basketball Championship Game. I look forward to seeing everyone at the next meeting, or hopefully sooner at a car show up in the cool mountains.
Your President,
Steve Wingenfeld

History
Our organization was formed in 1973 to combat and support, good and bad legislation. We have proudly served the HOBBYIST of Arizona for over three decades and have been very effective in beating back the constant, year after year, threats that could severely injure our HOBBY or completely destroy it. We have been on the job as your watchdog for our HOBBY ,to take on the challenges of, scrappage proposals, new vehicular taxes, aggressive zoning laws, anti-cruising efforts and many other issues that would harm our HOBBY.
Our organization has a great history of clout, purely due to numbers. If we have 100 member clubs, out of the 221 clubs in AZ, with an average membership of 50 members, that is a base of 5,000 people. With an average of 2.3 voters per household that is 11,500 who can influence 3 people each, we now have clout of 34,500 persons to vote on issues or candidates that effect our HOBBY. When you consider that some local and state elections have been won by 10 votes or less, not to mention the last presidential election, we have a tremendous amount of clout. This is why it is so important for every car club to join the AAHC! If all 221 car clubs in AZ joined the AAHC we would have the clout of 76,245. It’s almost scary when you sit back and look at the possibilities those numbers could have an effect on. PLEASE JOIN NOW!!!
We are requesting for your club to join the AAHC now and be a part of our clout. We hope to see you at our meeting first Monday of each month meeting as a new or renewed club member. The dues are $15 for individual members, $30 for small clubs (under 30 members) and $40 for large clubs (30 or more members). Please print the application form and send with your check today. 2010 dues form
